The perfect Sunday in Playa del Carmen Is about exploring the city and getting to know its culture and its people. It’s a day to spend with friends and family, enjoy the beach, explore the local cuisine, and find out what makes this place so special.
Playa del Carmen is a coastal resort community in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo along the Riviera Maya stretch of the Caribbean coastline. It is well-known for its palm-lined beaches and coral reefs. Alongside the beach, the city’s Quinta Avenida pedestrian thoroughfare features blocks of boutiques, eateries, and nightclubs that range from chill bars to dancing clubs.
WAKE UP TO THE BEACH
Nothing is more priceless than hearing the sound of waves when you awaken. Start the day off by spending some time at the beach, Playa Punta Esmeralda is a local hidden gem. You can go for a morning swim, meditate and have some local fruit on the beach. There is plenty of local fruit stands nearby as well as frutería’s, that also sell local fruits and smoothies. In addition upon entrance to the cove leading to the beach, there are vendors selling seafood shish kebab and other snacks. Depending on what side of the beach you decide to relax on it can be a bit rocky or smooth. You’ve got options baby!!! The water is usually warm and pretty shallow even far out.
3D Museum of Wonders
One of the top illustrators of 3D conceptual art presents their incredible artistic creations in the interactive museum known as the 3D Museum of Wonders. Amazing optical illusions can be seen throughout the museum. You will be immersed in the artwork on show and become a part of the exhibit rather than just viewing them.
ENJOY A DAY PASS AT GRAND HYATT Resort
At the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort, whose infinity pools provide breathtaking ocean views and gaze out over the Caribbean’s white sand beach, you can stay stylish and stay cool. At Cenote Spa, take a dip in one of the pools that are fashioned after the cenotes that can be found in the Mayan Rivera to recreate the ideal holistic environment for the welfare of mind, body, and soul. Enjoy your day trip to the fullest with the delectable Mexican fare from La Cocina, the greatest sushi in town, and the legendary mezcal and tequila cocktails from Paseo Bar. The day pass is surprisingly affordable to fit any budget. You can enjoy your day pass solo, with family, or with a friend the choice is yours.
LA Plaza De Playa
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at La Plaza De Playa enjoy different performances such as dancing, singing, and movies from local artists. In addition, there are plenty of local vendors who sell handmade clothing, food, jewelry, and much more. One of my favorite vendors is Naty Healing you can find different meditation and healing tools such as sage, crystals, and more. There is also plenty of space for children to run and play. It’s a great place to spend a Sunday evening with the locals and your family.
EL Fogon
Get a taste of Mexico at EL Fogon Restaurant where they serve tacos, family-style grilled meat plates, and more. Absolutely delicious, colorful, and delightful. There are a few locations in Playa Del Carmen to choose from. A lot of times there is a line and the temperature can get a bit hot with all the grilling going on but I can assure you it is worth it. Your taste buds will sing.
Watch The sunset
At the end of your Sunday, you can head back to Punta Esmeralda beach with a few friends to watch the sunset panoramically (gorgeous sunset views guaranteed), and if you and your friends are lucky you all will have a chance to join in on a volleyball game.
